Disruption to shipping routes linked to the Iran war has left about eight million kilogrammes of tea stuck in warehouses in Kenya’s port city of Mombasa for weeks, threatening export earnings and farmer incomes.
Between 6,000 and 8,000 tonnes of tea, worth around $24 million, are stuck at Kenya’s port of Mombasa due to the war in the Middle East, affecting about 65% of the East African tea market.
The conflict in the Middle East is disrupting Kenya's tea trade, with nearly 65% of its tea exports going to markets affected by the war, leading to vessels loaded with cargo being in limbo.
