President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping’s meeting later this week could shed light on the fate of a trade truce that’s allowed the movement of China’s rare earths to the U.S.

China suspended its sweeping controls on its exports of rare earths and other critical materials until November 2026 as part of its trade truce with the US.

China and the U.S. are considering extending a truce on Chinese rare earth export curbs at a leaders' summit this week, but Chinese customs data shows Beijing is still throttling shipments of the materials vital for defense and manufacturing.
