Israel carries out large wave of air strikes across Lebanon

Attacks hit the southern suburbs of Beirut, southern Lebanon and the eastern Bekaa Valley hours after a US-Iran ceasefire was announced.

Israeli airstrikes hit central Beirut without warning, causing panic, hours after a ceasefire was announced in the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran. Israel stated the agreement does not extend to its conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon, though mediator Pakistan said it does.

During ongoing U.S.-Iran negotiations, Israel has offered to limit its military strikes in Lebanon, according to Vice President Vance. This gesture aims to maintain the fragile ceasefire and prevent Iran from withdrawing from the talks, especially after Israeli attacks in Lebanon killed at least 254 people and prompted condemnation from Lebanese officials.

Israel has launched renewed strikes on southern Lebanon as it continues to press forward with a ground invasion, while also waging new attacks on Beirut shortly after striking areas around the capital that had been so far removed from the conflict.

Israeli air attacks have rained down on three neighbourhoods in Beirut, Lebanese state media reported, as the beleaguered nation says more than one million have been displaced since this punishing front in the wider regional war began more than two weeks ago.
