Federal prosecutors released video footage showing Cole Tomas Allen, armed with guns and knives, attempting to attack the White House Correspondents' Association dinner, where President Donald Trump was in attendance. The incident occurred at the Washington Hilton and disrupted the high-profile event. The video shows Allen running through a magnetometer toward the hotel ballroom while brandishing a firearm. A Secret Service officer, who was shot in the bulletproof vest, returned fire, injuring Allen before he could cause further harm.
A chilling new video released by the U.S. Attorney's Office shows Cole Tomas Allen, the suspect in the White House Correspondents' Dinner (WHCD) shooting, surveying the Washington Hilton hotel the night before the attack. Footage captures Allen, a 31-year-old part-time teacher, walking the hallways, inspecting the gym, and later firing a shotgun at a Secret Service agent during his attempted assassination of President Donald Trump. The agent was injured but protected by a bulletproof vest. Allen was apprehended and found carrying a handgun and knives.

BBC Verify has analysed video which shows the police were warned of the threat to Donald Trump almost two minutes before Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire on him from the roof of a building at a rally in Pennsylvania. Mr Trump narrowly survived the assassination attempt, after the gunman accessed a roof around 130 meters from the podium where the former president and Republican candidate was speaking. It's the job of the US Secret Service to protect sitting and former presidents. Somehow the gunman managed to breach the security perimeter with a rifle and reach an elevated position close to Mr Trump. Video of the attack shows that members of the crowd alerted police to the threat from the gunman at least 1 minute 45 seconds before he opened fire. Firearms officers appear to have only reacted to the threat once Thomas Crooks began shooting, at which point he was shot dead by snipers on the roof of another building.
