On March 2, 2026, Britain announced that it is not at war despite a drone strike on its Royal Air Force (RAF) base in Akrotiri, Cyprus. The base was targeted by an Iranian-made Shahed-type drone, causing minimal damage and no injuries. Two additional drones were intercepted. This marks the first attack on Cyprus from outside the country since Turkey's 1974 invasion. Akrotiri serves as the UK’s primary Middle East air base, supporting operations against ISIS and the Houthis.
