Samsung Electronics and its South Korean labor union have resumed government-mediated pay talks to avert a strike scheduled to begin on May 21, 2026, which could disrupt global supply chains.
Samsung Electronics and its largest labor union have returned to mediation talks three days before a planned general strike that threatens to halt production at the company's semiconductor facilities.
Samsung Electronics and its South Korean labor union are set to join a new round of government-mediated pay talks on Monday, in a bid to avert a strike at the tech giant, which accounts for nearly a quarter of the country's exports.
Prime Minister Kim Min-seok urged Samsung Electronics and its labor unions to reach a last-minute agreement ahead of a planned general strike, warning that a walkout at the world's largest memory chipmaker could inflict 'fatal damage' to Korea's economy in a rare public appeal.
Samsung Electronics management and labor, which have been in conflict over the announcement of a general strike, decided to proceed with additional talks on the 16th after replacing the management’s chief negotiator in response to the union’s demand.
